Saving of the Green Beer Walk Thursday

Main Street Mt. Pleasant's annual beer walk free to the public

Main Street Mt. Pleasant will be ushering in St. Patrick’s Day a few days early with their annual Saving of the Green Beer Walk on Thursday, March 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Mt. Pleasant.

St. Patrick’s day is Sunday, March 17, but on Thursday, beer walk participants will get the chance to sample beer from at least 15 downtown stores and enjoy the spring weather.

“We want to encourage people to shop local and shop in the businesses downtown,” said Lisa Oetken, director of Main Street Mt. Pleasant. “Stores will have some winter sales this time of the year, so they can come check out the sales, taste some beer, eat some snacks, and it’s a way to get them into the businesses.”

A limited number of Pilsner sample glasses will be available at Your Dream Home and Furniture, Lillian Grace Boutique and Keo’s. Tasting glasses also will be available at all locations.

Oetken said the beer walk is important especially after a “hard, hard winter.”

“When the weather is bad like that, people tend not to come down to eat as much, shop as much, and it’s our way to encourage people to get into our businesses and what they have to offer,” Oetken said. “We’re pushing ‘look local first.’”

Maps will be available. Anyone whose map is signed by various locations can get the chance to be entered in to a drawing.

This is a free event.
