New London softball walked off in the seventh

KEOSAQUA — Van Buren’s Chelsey Huff hit a two-run walk off home run to upend New London on Tuesday night in Keosaqua. The Tigers fell 3-1 in SEISC South Division action.

New London scored first. The first batter of the game, Sofie Reighard, got on base and four batters later, Marah Hartrick knocked her in. That was one of four hits for New London all game.

Van Buren tied the game up with one run in the fourth inning. Taylor Thornsberry knocked in a run to knot the game at 1-1, and that set up for Huff’s game-winning two-out homer in the bottom of the seventh.

Kara Krieger was 2-3 in the loss. Hartrick finished 1-2 with an RBI, and Layney Loyd went 1-3.

Chloe Heitmeier had a strong outing despite the loss. She gave up three runs (two earned) on nine hits and one walk over six and two-thirds innings. She also struck out one batter in the loss.

It was New London’s second two-run loss to Van Buren this season, but it looked a lot different than their matchup in early June. The Warriors clipped the Tigers 10-8 at New London on June 4.

New London has now lost their last eight games. They’ll look to turn things around tonight (Wednesday) in Riverside when they travel north to take on Highland.
