Panther girls compete at Regionals

FAIRFIELD — The Mt. Pleasant girls’ tennis team competed in the Region 7 individual singles nad doubles tournament in Fairfield on Wednesday. The Panthers had one win in the singles tournament and one in doubles.

Sierra Barton competed in the singles tournament for Mt. Pleasant. She took down Cortney Erickson of West Burlington-Notre Dame 6-4 and 6-4, but fell in the second round to Julia Thomas of Davenport Assumption, 6-2 and 6-0.

Olivia Larson also played in the singles bracket. She fell to Maharishi’s Olivia Goodale 6-3 and 6-3.

Mt. Pleasant’s No. 1 doubles team of Erin Zihlman and Hallie Sandeen elminated Maharishi’s Yenet Tafesse and Deepika Vampati in the first round, winning 6-2 and 6-1. They were upended by the Assumption squad of Lauren Diluliio and Caroline Bush in the second round, falling 6-0 and 6-4.

Shaleen Thienmany and Breanna Runyon also entered the doubles tournament. THey lost in the first round against the squad of Tess Paton and Destiny Gridley, falling 6-3 and 7-5.
