DES MOINES — The 2019 state track meet is underway, and already a few Mt. Pleasant Panthers have put their cleats to the blue oval.
The story of the morning’s races is Abby Ryon who finished fourth place in the girls’ 3000-meter run, finishing with a time of 10:47.21 That was her best finish ever at the blue oval.
Ryon spent the vast majority of the race running behind eventual state champion Janette Schraft, and ahead of the rest of the pack, in second. She was passed by two runners on the final lap but held off the rest of the group.
The first event of the day for Henry County was the Class 3A girls’ shuttle hurdle preliminaries. The shuttle hurdle team of Karsyn Lamm, Kenna Lamm, Serenity Keomanivong and Maddie Williamson ran their heat in 1:10.33, placing fourth in the heat and 18th overall. That was not enough to get into Saturday’s state final, as only the top eight runners qualify.
The News will have the rest of Thursday’s results in Friday’s edition.
